WELCOME TO THE
LLOYDS TSB WELSH PROMS CARDIFF 2006
Under the Artistic Direction of Owain Arwel Hughes OBE,
the Welsh Proms Cardiff comes of age this year as it celebrates its 21st birthday. The much loved annual Welsh Proms Cardiff season is a focal point in the City's cultural calendar and
a hallmark of the Cardiff Festival, combining magical music with an irresistible party atmosphere throughout St David’s Hall, the National Concert Hall of Wales.
We are particularly delighted that Lloyds TSB – which has been a long term supporter and sponsor of a concert each season – has agreed a major three year title sponsorship of
the Welsh Proms Cardiff demonstrating its confidence
and commitment which is greatly valued.
This year features a series of magnificent orchestral symphony and family concerts from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra, together with outstanding soloists and choirs.
In addition St David’s Hall is delighted to welcome the
London Mozart Players to present a Welsh Proms Cardiff concert in celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Mozart.
To complete the picture we have the World, Lunchtime and Children’s Proms and the return of the hugely popular Tiddly Prom for the youngest members of our audience;
as well as
Prom in a Primary, a St David’s Hall Arts Active initiative that takes the Welsh Proms Cardiff out into primary schools across the city.
I very much hope you will join us in this celebratory
21st birthday feast of music and fun – a celebration which clearly demonstrates Cardiff’s much deserved designation as
a Centre of Cultural Excellence.
Councillor Freda Salway
Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cardiff
St David’s Hall is owned, managed and funded by Cardiff Council.
